This section is here as a design study (I do not expect Wyvern ever to be built) to show the calculations required to check the design and to show the effects of various design decisions.
Two designs are presented, one with a 25 metre high performance wingspan and the other with a shorter 18 metre wingspan.
The effects, not only of aerodynamics but of structure, are shown.
Is either design the best? Is one design better than the other? Only in respect the Kremer School prize limits wingspan to 18 metres.
The maths looks complicated but once entered into a spreadsheet it is easy to alter variables to see the new result. Set the spreadsheet up with the long wing data and check it with the short wing data
